Systems, devices and applications communicate status, warnings, and distress by sending strings of text that are intended to be interpreted by an operator and/or system manager. Having humans monitor and respond to all these messages has become an overwhelming task due to the number of systems, devices, and applications being managed.
ConsoleWorks® Intelligent Event Modules (IEM) can assist by monitoring these communications 7x24, matching them with predefined text patterns, and declaring alarms based on the critical nature of their occurrence in real-time.
Each IEM is designed around a particular operating system, application or device, and contains a thorough database of known error messages and warning conditions such as low disk space or thermal tolerance. Associated with each error message is a reaction instruction specific to that error message, which can be customized by a client. These reaction instructions can range from notifying specific personnel, automatically generating helpdesk tickets, power cycling a device, or executing code on the device in question.
For example, if you were monitoring an Exchange 2003 server with ConsoleWorks, and the SMTP service stops responding, the Exchange server IEM can automatically restart the service, while also notifying your Exchange specialist. As a result, the down time of the service is reduced to seconds instead of minutes or possibly hours.
In more complex situations, IEMs also contain a library of vendor approved ‘best practices’. This instant knowledge base, which you can add to and modify to better suit your environment, provides an invaluable resource to aid in reducing mean time to resolution.
There is virtually no limit to the capabilities of Intelligent Event Modules. Either through our Professional Services, or your in house staff, IEMs can be modified or created to adapt to the specific needs of your existing IT processes.
Below is a highlight of available IEMs. If you do not see the device, application or operating system you are interested in, we may have one already available. Contact us to find out.
