Web-based Graphical User Interface
ConsoleWorks provides a web-based interface for monitoring, evaluating, and managing your IT infrastructure over a standard internet line. The primary Graphical User Interface (GUI) is used with industry standard Web browsers like, but not limited to, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape, and FireFox. Because ConsoleWorks uses a Web browser as its primary interface, it is easy to use and gives you secure access to your infrastructure anywhere, anytime.

Event Notification and Remediation
IT departments are required to provide information concerning log Event anomalies, outages, and occurrences that could result in system or device downtime, a security breach, or any suspicious activity on the network. ConsoleWorks' reporting feature effectively provides information to help meet a SLA time for each Event, as well as, IT information for regulatory compliance and business reporting. ConsoleWorks provides real-time Event notification, Event remediation, and complete Event history from the time an Event occurs to the Event's remediation - for all of your critical assets - applications, components, devices, and equipment. ConsoleWorks, via our IEM (Intelligent Event Module) technology supplies intelligent vendor event information to you, so that you can better manage and remediate these events.

Event Notification
ConsoleWorks can send an email, page, phone call, text message or fax the moment it detects an event. This service can be easily setup and modified within ConsoleWorks, but actions can be initiated, responded-to, and applied from any connection anywhere in the world.

Event Remediation
ConsoleWorks provides you with the following Event Remediation help:

  • Vendor solutions to Events
  • Customized solutions to Events
  • Automatic Actions that remediate Events
  • Event History - ConsoleWorks Event History provides:
  • Logs of all activity in the data streams of your managed enterprise.
  • Important data you need in order to understand the background and context of an Event
  • Resolution to immediate Event issues
  • Reporting

Security
SSL is used to encrypt the data that flows between the ConsoleWorks Web Server and web browsers. This protocol secures the connection between you and ConsoleWorks. SSH is used to secure the connection between the ConsoleWorks web server and terminal servers. SSH ensures that all connections between ConsoleWorks' managed devices are encrypted and secure. Authentication requires each user to login and provide an authorized username and password. Any unauthorized attempt to login causes ConsoleWorks to declare an Event and execute the appropriate response, providing full accountability logging of all events.

External Authentication
ConsoleWorks can be configured to provide authentication via a Radius or other related service so that a user can have a single sign on. ConsoleWorks allows the user to develop or build interfaces to any external authentication service.

Security Application Management
Use ConsoleWorks to monitor and manage your security applications. ConsoleWorks alerts you to Events from your security application in real-time, allowing you to remediate the security Event before a catastrophic security breach occurs.

Interface to SNMP and other Administrative Programs
SNMP TRAPS can be sent and received by ConsoleWorks. This allows the integration of in-band management tools like HP's OpenView, IBM's Tivoli, MicroSoft's MOM, and several other large and costly administrative programs. This means that you can extend the reach of event management throughout your entire IT infrastructure with higher ROI, and lower incremental costs.

Interface Modules
ConsoleWorks integrates with BMC Patrol, HP OpenView, CA Unicenter, and MicroSoft's MOM to provide Event detection, information and acknowledgement to the BMC, HP and CA's management console and ConsoleWorks simultaneously.

High Availability
ConsoleWorks can be configured for high-availability environments. An active failover configuration gives you the ability to manage any given device from either your primary ConsoleWorks invocation or the backup ConsoleWorks configuration. The ConsoleWorks failover configuration can provide a user access to a managed device irrespective of which one is ACTUALLY managing the device.
